Ok, maybe a bit radical, I could understand complaints but I made it short, that's all. I'll give my opinion too here (I did it last year in a very interesting thread but don't have the guts to search now) : making it very short, comparing different situations/projects involving different types of noise to solve and taking price, time and efficiency into account, I came to the conclusion that Neat wasn't worth buying it for those who are not owners yet in 2020. The Spatial NR Enhanced mode is fantastic for a lot of noise reduction scenarios, provided you're not careless with it. And noise is one of those things you really have to see in motion to get an idea of its impact, which sometimes means needing to render out at least a portion of the timeline to see where you're "at".

Being able to capture a noise print from your specific camera and use it as a starting point in Neat, is fantastic-but it did take me a long time to tweak, trial & error, etc. Neat Video is a very powerful tool and I used it to recover some dark images I had shot, where we had little choice with the lighting given. (Note that this is a pay site, but I think the information they provide is worth the investment.) Marc Wielage Bowdach just did a fantastic half-hour 2-part video comparing and contrasting Resolve 16 TNR/SNR with the latest Neat Video v5 over on. I tend to have a couple of settings for day scenes / day interiors, and a couple of settings for night scenes, and I usually wind up using more NR for night, taking care to avoid artifacts. The more Luma NR you use, the greater the risk of softening the picture. The trick for me is to adjust it on a scene by scene basis, consider doing NR on one color channel only (like Blue, which tends to be noisy), and also adjust Luma and Chroma separately.

In truth, the SNR Enhanced mode in Resolve - which they give you free with Resolve Studio - is almost as good and is already included. Their latest version is the best they've ever done and is made especially for Resolve. Short version: I think Neat does a better job overall but a) it costs more money, b) it takes more time, and c) it's very tweaky and has a lot of settings you have to carefully adjust for best results.

Often I wait for several rounds of software upgrades before purchasing the latest version in order to maximize the number of improvements I am getting for my new investment.Bowdach just did a fantastic half-hour 2-part video comparing and contrasting Resolve 16 TNR/SNR with the latest Neat Video v5 over on. I think your decision to not upgrade is a good one.

If the following year, the same model car includes this feature, they don't come around and install it on your old car at no cost. The non-subscription model is like buying a car that doesn't have automatic braking when it senses you are approaching an obstacle. Such protection for very recent purchasers is also a typical characteristic of a NON-subscription model. But if I had purchased DeNoise over a year ago, I would be in the same boat as you.

I purchased DeNoise AI a few weeks ago and this upgrade has been offered to me for free because it was added so shortly after my initial purchase. You don't have the option of deciding the upgrade is not important to your requirements and keep the money in your pocket. As a trade off for receiving the upgrades automatically, regardless of whether the improvement is important to your needs or not, you are obligated to keep paying and paying and paying. Under the subscription model, you don't pay once and get to use the software forever. But if the old version still satisfies your needs, you are under no obligation to pay more and adopt the upgrade.

Often, if you already own the product, they will sell you the "new" version at a discount. If you want the improved software version, it is almost like buying the product anew. However, if the manufacturer subsequently improves the software, you don't automatically receive the upgrade. In this non-subscription model you pay once for the software and can keep using it forever at no additional cost. This almost the perfect definition of software that is the complete opposite of a subscription model. Given that the current version of DeNoise AI seems to be working just fine for me, I can't really see that this is good value.

This strikes me as almost like a subscription model. I've just received an email offering me a 1 year upgrade plan for $49, which would allow me to upgrade to v2.4.
